To collect a communicable disease test sample, add it directly to the Communicable Disease module after filling out the Details tab fields.

- Go to the Testing tab.

- Select Yes.

- Click Add to collect a new sample. Note, you may also Link an existing communicable disease test entry to the encounter if the patient was recently tested. For now, click Add.

- This will open the communicable disease testing window, where users may enter information related to the sample and test to be completed.

- Enter the Sample Taken Date and Time.

- Generate a Sample ID by selecting Generate, which adds a randomized ID to the label for tracking the test sample. To add a Sample ID manually, enter a unique label in the box.

- Use the dropdown box to select the method used to take the communicable disease sample from the index case, such as nasopharyngeal (nose) or saliva sampling.

- Add the specimen type that was used to derive the sample. This may be a nasal swab to collect a nasal or saliva sample. The options vary by client.

- Select the test type for the index case using the dropdown box. You may choose one or more test types for this sample. Add the location where the sample was taken, such as onboard the vessel. Then, select the physician collecting the test sample.

- Choose the instrument used to process the sample. If not available, enter the instrument details manually by selecting Other. Add the Test Brand from the dropdown list. The Test Timeframe, required by the CDC, indicates if the sample was taken while the patient was boarding the vessel, onboard the vessel, or in quarantine at the time of collection.

- Select the Testing Reason from the dropdown menu. Options include Diagnostic for medical encounters, Screening for possible exposure, and Surveillance for testing general populations as a preventive measure. Then, add a group tag if the patient is being tested with a specific group. Finally, add the patient's symptom severity.

- Indicate if the patient attended shore leave in the last seven days. Then, specify if the test reminder frequency is once or repeat. Select repeat if the patient will be tested frequently, such as every 48 hours.

- Indicate the Test Result Status. Leave as pending if awaiting results and update during a follow-up. Select ready if results are available and enter the test processing date/time, results date/time, test results, CT value, and physician.

- Click Save.

- View the test in the list. Add or adjust entries as needed, then analyze the case.
